The great thing about life is that you really can learn something new every day if you allow yourself. Today I had the opportunity to speak to a group of moms who homeschool their children 3 days a week, while the other two days they attend a Christian school. I was there to share with them time management and organizing tips for the “home study” days as well as the days that the children are at school. When I walked into the room this morning where I was going to speak I had no idea how enlightened I would be when I walked back out. After my presentation we opened up the floor for a Q&A session. This can be my most enjoyable part because you never know what these sessions are going to bring. Sometimes you have a group that loves to ask questions and share a lot of information and other times you have a group that is ready to head out the door so no one says anything. Today was a great day! There were lots of questions, lots of discussion. What I enjoyed the most was hearing how these moms are working to create order, and structure in their daily lives in addition to home study 3 days a week. Most of the moms have younger children also. I’m not singling these moms out as “super moms”. Heck, I think moms in general are pretty super. But, these moms were so open and honest about what is working for them and what isn’t. It was refreshing and heartwarming to hear their stories of chaos, but how they are starting to get things back under control. I learned some really great tips from these moms today on how to help my child work through his homework better without nagging him to keep on task. One mom was so sweet and wanted to share with me the title of a book that she just knew I would love – “The House That Cleans Itself”. I just have to say it’s amazing to walk out of a speaking engagement like this feeling so much richer, with knowledge and information, then when I had walked in.
