Call me crazy, but I actually do enjoy having a yard sale. I like them so much, that I’m coordinating a second one for our community this year. It’s just a couple of weeks away. I wasn’t too sure about a month ago if I would participate. I didn’t think I would have enough “stuff” to do a yard sale more than one time a year. Well, as I started to “collect” items from around my house I realized I have MORE than enough to participate. This sent me into a whirlwind declutter mode. I like to get my oldest son Erick (5) involved. I think it’s important for him to understand that we do not need to keep everything and that when we’re done playing with a toy or it is broken, we have to let it go. My son is a trooper. He makes 3 categories: 1. Keep, 2. Sell, 3. Donate. It’s sometimes hard for me to watch the things that he’s ready to let go of, they wouldn’t necessarily be my first choices, but I respect his decisions. Even he likes to “shed” some of the excess clutter. He says that it makes it easier to find the things that he wants. Great thinking! More decluttering tomorrow in preparation for the second yard sale this year!
